Elected Mayor of Wellington in 2010

Celia Wade-Brown grew up in London, graduated from Nottingham University with honours in Philosophy, spent a year working abroad in West Africa, and developed a career in computer communications programming, consultancy and teaching.  She’s called   Wellington home since 1983, admiring the beautiful natural setting, its compact form and vibrant culture. 

 

She served as a Southern Ward Councillor from 1994 and was elected Mayor in 2010, on a platform of community engagement, clean technology development and good transport policies. Her vision for Wellington makes the most of all its resources, especially its strong infrastructure, beautiful natural environment, compact city centre and suburban villages, and its creative population.

 

As Mayor, Celia leads the portfolios of Climate Change, Information and Communications Technology, Finance and Emergency Management, the latter has emerged as a key issue for all local government agencies and community organisations to address in 2011. The Mayor continues to be a strong advocate for all forms of public transport to be affordable, accessible and reliable.

 

Celia leads a Council that is responding to emerging challenges by promoting a sustainable, clean and digital technologies, global connectivity and continuing to attract a skilled and diverse workforce to Wellington, to keep Wellington a great place to live, work and visit.
